Viggo — MKV opens like any other video.
MKV videos play in QuickTime Player and show previews in Finder, using macOS's own decoders.
Viggo
MKV opens like any other video.
Viggo teaches your Mac the MKV format. Double-click a video and it plays in QuickTime Player; Finder shows its thumbnail and Quick Look previews it with Space. Turn it on once in System Settings and forget about it.
- Plays MKV files, and WebM with AV1 video, in QuickTime Player
- Thumbnails in Finder and previews in Quick Look
- H.264, HEVC and AV1 video (AV1 on M3 and later); AAC, AC-3, E-AC-3, FLAC, Opus and MP3 audio
- Uses macOS's own decoders: no extra codecs, nothing running in the background
Turn it on once in System Settings → Login Items & Extensions → Media Extensions. VP8/VP9 video and subtitles are not supported.
